Boring. Pointless. Lazy. Convoluted. Going nowhere imo because I frankly don’t care what the hell Wonder Woman is doing at the moment in comics. And this is a first for me after years of reading her. 

 Rucka did nothing new. In fact did we really need what he did? If they wanted to go back to preflashpoint as DC claimed…which we know they don’t since Rebirth is NOT preflashpoint as the origins have entirely different histories…George Perez had a perfectly good origin built upon by years of good character development. But Rucka didn’t write an origin. He mish mashed what other people did over the decades, some of it frankly pointless imo, because it adds no flavor. Rebirth Diana is basically a lotus eater who waited for a man to fall on her island. She is more Little Mermaid than Amazon princess. 

Here is a woman who apparently had thousands of years of living,  love affairs with her immortal sisters (who raised her btw like surrogate mothers and aunts because she was the only child on the island …dunno but I find that bugged me a child you’d raise with maternal or sisterly love you’d bed).  Anyway as a result Diana says is not good with romance and needs bland Steve Trevor to teach her. Oh and making him lose his shirt for no good reason and giving him a beard isn’t upping his sex appeal either. If a character is sexy, he just is. This Steve looks like either a vanilla Ken doll or an Ollie Queen rip off.  

The worst is Diana spent years insane in an asylum instead of being useful out in the world. Rucka did not write a definitive origin which he could have done. Rucka had a rather petty motivation and to me seemed too busy trying to crap on the new 52 and Superman/Wonder Woman. No Wonder Woman I know would throw a dead man under the bus as she did with Superman. Even Diana preflashpoint loved Superman deeply as a friend with some unresolved romantic tension. She respected and admired him. To say he had nothing of value other than strength and flight and was “easy” is just frankly out of character. Diana has more class, empathy and love in her than that. Trying to diss Superman, Rucka makes his Diana seem a petty and self involved.   His Olympian Gods are dull. From interesting, colorful personalities under Azzarello, we get Disney animals.

She is weak in terms of her power set. Rebirth Diana spends her time lying on the floor after being Koed or shot more than any time I ever read her in years. Imagine Steve Trevor is fighting Furies and her conveniently stronger brother Jason beating up foes Diana ought to handle. I really don’t know what is the point of Jason other than he’s an idea of Geoff Johns. And basically Johns wants his stuff in. In a way I’m glad none of new 52 Diana is part of this. It’d be a travesty to suggest that Diana is this one. 

Rucka can write a good Wonder Woman. I loved his run except his ridiculous Blackest Night tie in for Wonder Woman, which just made no god damn sense. His Diana had more agency, more intellect, more fire in her. Even his Gods were not this dull. 

Robinson I can’t blame too much because this is what he has to work with. If you have nothing inspiring to play with in the sandbox, don’t expect castles. 

Wonder Woman has no cast other than Steve, Jason and Etta. Think about that. 

Wonder Woman has a shitty power set. Think about that.

Her foes are still lacking. Which foe of Diana’s in Rebirth is truly compelling? Think about that.

Wonder Woman has not had a proper arc or plot that really helps build her mythos in this version in two years. It’s mostly the “origin” and then “lies” and then crap to build Jason and filler.  There is no real story as Perez had or Azzarello had or even Rucka himself did preflashpoint. Given we had numerous origins all over the place from Rebirth to DCEU to Legend of Wonder Woman…Earth One…the new 52..Odyssey …and so much more ….what I think this says is DC can do nothing much with her but origin stories. The one time they could have forged ahead, given they built 5 years of story with new 52, they crapped on it.  Wonder Woman of the Trinity is the only one that gets crapped on. Every time she loses her foundation. They drag her city to city. Cast to cast. granted some work better than others but this does not happen to Batman or Superman. She was built up post crisis/ preflashpoint and never even got a “happy ending” like Batman and Superman. Instead Batman and Superman forgot who she was and she was de-aged in Odyssey and given an entire new story while they continued being who they were. The Wonder Woman we loved from Perez was killed in Convergence. Rebirth was not done for Wonder Woman if you consider what we have so far. It was done for Steve Trevor, a love interest, whom she proved that she did not need for 30 years to have some of her best stories or to be the person we love as Wonder Woman.  Think about that.

btw, No matter what you say, I love Superwonder and nothing will change that. Superwonder is here to stay. Deal with it!

People like this is the reason why I dislike the character of lois lane. I didn’t used to. I didn’t mind clois, until the clombies began attacking and maligning SWMM and the fandom. So because I can’t regard the character of lois lane without associating her with the unhinged fandom that has done nothing but baselessly attack the thing and people I love, well, I have nothing but disdain and disrespect for both! Good job, clombies!! Your intolerance causes people to dislike and disassociate your heroine and your cause!

Yeah, I’ve read it and it’s awful. I can’t respect any argument from someone who calls Selina Kyle aka Catwoman a “ damsel in distress”! Demeaning a powerful independent woman to put an ordinary one on the pedestal as far as making it seem like a Bizarro world is so dumb and unnecessary that doesn’t make any sense! It’s like describing all of Selina’s traits and then replacing her name with Lois in the edit!

For years Cl*ois fans thought that their ship is the only one that matters in DC, thanks to tons of movies, tv shows, and animations. Now more people love Batcat, even beyond comic book communities like movie fans and gamers. So they feel threatened by a ship that they always looked down at it that has become more prominent! So bitter and sad!    

This is the same attitude they have against Superwonder fans as well with extreme prejudice ofc! Now it seems like Batcat is their new target! Always waging wars on other ships! Typical!

I read it and I gotta say I just laughed. The guy has not read much comics or just thinks flat out writing untruths will gain him some sort of traction. But many people have read comics. have seen movies, tv…it’s there for all to see who is a damsel. It is not Selina. 

Sadly I think DC don’t give a crap for most couples but SMLL because they get everything easy while other ships have to suffer even though they earned their relationships via the narrative. What DC doing to BatCat now is evidence. Fact I believe DC prob uses BatCat, SuperWonder and JokerHarley…soon AquaMera will prob join the list… the most to push books and move merch. New 52 was SuperWonder. Rebirth is BatCat.  And YET it is SMLL who get the accolades and protection despite selling mid to low tier. I will never understand the thought process behind this.

This movie is nothing more than a rip off, a slap in the face and a spit in they eye to SMWW fans, Superman fans and Wonder Woman fans. It’s ashcan: they made something for the express purpose of maintaining the intellectual property, not because they love the characters. Well, it’s ashcan plus an opportunity to piss on the fans of SMWW. Fine, DC, enjoy all your mediocrity and failure. Rebirth, indeed; its why I call it “Afterbirth”.

Clark and Diana never broke up in the new 52. Superman tried to push her away because he knew he was dying but they loved each other to the end. DC doesn’t value something like good story telling or character development. Lois and Clark are not characters that ever earned what they have. I don’t care what anyone says. In most stories they just lumped together. And Clark has taken a serious 180 in terms of his characterization in the Death of Superman. He acts like a 14 year old teenager who is passive aggressive with Diana and totally uneasy with who he is as a man of two worlds and a superhero. He’s like a whiny guy who wants a girlfriend and the one who just falls into his way of thinking. Diana and him broke up because who knows? They can’t find a good reason really.  And Lois obliges because she always lusted after Superman anyway. So no biggie she was lied to by her so called normal boyfriend.

And even the lines from the new 52 comics was stolen to be given on a platter to Lois and Clark who frankly worked for nothing they have. They even dating each other via lies. ie Clark never telling her who he is. She flirting with Superman while supposedly dating Clark. This is their way of cheating for Rebirth they way they cheated in comics. 

New 52 Clark died in Diana’s arms. Not Lois Lane’s. The Death of Superman is an old 90ties  story they trying to hijack the new 52 verse and use the new 52 Justice league to sell a redone trite Superman story. 

The animated Death of Superman can fuck off. It’s a tiresome plot to kill Superman. It’s all DC and WB can do. Doomsday is the only foe he has. This is three times now. The first lame movie which did not have the Justice League. The DCEU and now this again. Just know using the Justice League is a way to try to get other people to pick this up but the Justice League are nerfed in this so Superman can punch really hard and die.

This is what truly happened in the new 52. Respect the fans and source material.

So the Death of Superman animated movie recently leaked online. And I saw it. This is my review.

This movie is waste of time for SuperWonder, Wonder Woman and Justice League fans. It shoe horns Superman and Lois Lane’s relationship out of nowhere. Clark and Diana “broke up” because….I really don’t know. But it makes no coherent sense or has no emotional connectivity to the last 4 movies in this animated verse loosely based on the new 52. 

Superman is a tad whiny and suddenly “loves” Lois who doesn’t even know he is Superman but he is dating her as Clark. Yet feels like Lois is on heat for Superman. LOL. Yeah. 

Like how, when, and why she even is with Clark was not even addressed.  So he is dating her and, lying his ass off  as half his self…um yeah so honest and such a great thing to do. She says doesn’t know much about him, but he says she knows him better than anyone else…Yet we don’t know what the hell she truly knows of him.

By the way Peter J Tomasi pens this so he of course tries to dump the blame on Diana. Why? Apparently she likes being truthful and not lying. Yeah. Wanting REAL truth is in a relationship and not hiding and living honestly is so bad. This Superman wants a woman do as he says and wants. Lois obliges for him. Easily. Because he tells her his little secret. She doesn’t have to do much else. But say she love him now. 

The villain is a waste of time and looks like Jeepers Creepers on steroids. The whole JL is nerfed so Superman can punch real hard and make google eyes at Lois. Lois who should actually be dead given she keeps jumping in the middle of their battle. 

The quality of the animation is not good. You just have to look at the trailers and see what I mean. It has taken a nose dive. If you like Batman or Flash or Cyborg or GL you see  little of them. If you love Aquaman you see nearly nothing. Wonder Woman gets a little more than the others but she is not really respected in this movie much either. And Jerry O’Connell who voices Superman sounds younger than his wife who plays Lois.She sounds much more mature.  I find they don’t really gel as a couple as he and Rosario did. 

The movie tries to mish mash an old 90ties story in the modern era and fails. It ignores the original set up and the new 52 set up and even the new 52 verse these movies are based on and to me it fails. 

This is really DC trying to Rebirth now on animation. They did their crapping of new 52 SMWW in comics now is time to do it in the animated movies. It lacks real emotion. You view Superman dying and don’t give a fuck. Like the DCEU. 

And Tomasi steals the new 52 SMWW moment of “What a lucky man I was…” and gives it to Superman and Lois. Talk about disrespecting the new 52 fans who bought the books and the DVDs. SMWW can’t even have their own moments preserved. DCAU is renown for this, stealing from smww and giving it blatantly to SMLL or BMWW. They did in it in The New Frontier and For The Man Who Has Everything. And clois fans say we steal from them and our pairing is easy. Pfft. I think they need to get their eyes checked and see what easy means. 

Anyway my suggestion? Go see if you can find that leak and look at it and save yr precious dollars. wait and download it free. It is not worth it unless you really don’t give a shit about organic story telling. WB are banking on using this JL and the new 52 look to try to get this tired, rehashed Death of Superman to sell. I don’t think they will succeed. 

It’s such a waste of good, original material from the new 52 to force a tired story with little emotional resonance. As a pure Superman fan I don’t even know how anyone can find this remotely riveting unless you are a clois fan who does not care how yr couple hook up. 

Also SuperWonder fans need to send DC a clear message: We are not chumps.  

Keep voting with yr wallet, SuperWonder fans! 

I have not been buying comics and will not be buying their animation now. Simple. 

I have not purchased a single piece of garbage from DC since they announced Afterbirth. Since the announcement, they have done nothing but crap on & disrespect us SMWW fans, SMWW, the characters Superman and Wonder Woman. DC can go to Hell. They deserve all the bad they have cultivated.

Nope! No offense to Mr Bendis but the Superman and Wonder Woman I grew to care for are long gone. Mr Jurgens called SMWW fans fake so why I should anyone care if fake fans don’t buy Superman?  Tomasi takes digs at Diana when he can in his story to prop his own stuff showing he never understood Diana nor truly cared for smww when he wrote them. And this is the same Superman Mr Bendis is writing. I have zero interest in Rebirth Superman. He is not the guy I grew to care for in preflashpoint nor the the new 52 Clark I grew to appreciate as a rather good start on a modern spin on a stagnating character. Rebirth Superman’s history changes at will by writers who jumped the shark to force him into a narrative he never earned, he is pandered to, he typically suffers little consequence, and he is very boring. I can’t see Mr Bendis doing anything with him that would make me care because I don’t like the manner they ushered him in in the first place. The Rebirth relationship between Clark and Diana is shallow and not even worth caring for imo. They are not even the best friends of pre flashpoint. Jurgens just uses Diana as a mouthpiece to prop his status quo. And Rucka’s Rebirth Diana did not exactly have anything nice to say about Superman. Why should I really care for these characters and their fake  “friendship”?

Besides my money is way too precious to be wasted on DC anymore. The manner in which they dealt with the new 52 and smww fans has been atrocious. Why should I give a company money for calling what I read lies and fake? No thanks. I rather spend where I am appreciated as a paying customer.

I’m tired to tell anyone patient enough to hear me that nobody, not a single soul, nadie, zilch, has any love for Superman at all in entertainment and comic industries. And the public isn’t better either: the very few who like him are divided, some wants the goody-two-shoes blue boy scout and others love Mr. Debbie, always hiding behind Lois’ type writer…no, wait: that’s not fair, I think she moved on to WordStar by now.  The point is nobody wants him to evolve. 

Only a few of us, and nobody pay us any attention.

Every other superhero gets its “yippee ki yay” moment, when they deliver a tough speech and make good on their word by kicking the villain’s ass. Not Superman. Whenever he says something mildly harsh, he gets his own ass served to him on a platter. 

Remember the “World made of cardboard” speech he said to Darkseid in JLU animation? Pretty good, huh? Remember what happened next? The fight was in his favor until that very moment, then Darksey took the upper hand and Batso, “human” Batso, had to save Superman’s sorry ass.

You do that to a villain, not to a hero. Least of all Supes.

That’s just an example. If you care to look for more, you’ll see it happening all the time. But only with Superman.

That’s the way they “humanize” him.

And they made him Batso’s lackey, Lois’ errand boy, a father who hides for 10 years, playing house, while the World is in shambles, in spite of being called the “greatest superhero”, they confine him to an obsolete job and the same city just because is “traditional”, they also kill him every now and then, just for kicks,

Who’s “they”, well: DC Comics and Warner Bros., of course! The owners of the commercial rights. Same who later ask “what’s wrong with Superman?” Let me tell you what: you, assholes!

But then again, not even the self called “Superman’s fans” are any good,  because at any sign of modernization the fandom starts complaining, starting “not my Superman” campaigns and such. Fans are allergic to change.

There’s no fan-service because they don’t know which fans to provide the service to. Everyone wants something different, or so they say.

If they make him awesome and fantastic, they “dehumanize” him. Fucking alien…

If they make him hesitant and insecure, he’s too weak.

If they make him date another person than Lane, that’s not tradition.

If they make him a citizen of the World…what happened to Metropolis? Superman is American, like the apple pie!

If they try to modernize his job, big no-no: “the Daily Planet is part of who Superman is”, no matter if that part is obsolete.

But, like everything, if Superman doesn’t evolve, eventually will die.

It’s being a long, loooong agony.

It’s the reason why Lois Lane has her own movie, comic book and is part of the famous DC Trinity. I can’t wait to buy the next Lois related merchandising item.

Like what does “bringing to light” even mean? Is Bruce a vampire? Or some villain that needs her to teach him what exactly? How to be more moral? How to care better for Gotham and the people? To mentor kids and raise them? To be a humanitarian? To train better? To be more disciplined? The disparity in their power sets is so huge. He can’t physically spar with her any more than he can with Superman. 

He needs her to sleep with or fall in love? Don’t know about them but Batman has done his share of sleeping around, genuinely fallen in love with women, even gotten engaged and married one ( Selina) in his long history. 

I mean what “darkness” in Diana are we talking about here? Oh you mean those Batman fanboy creators  who want to darken Diana’s character to fit him, to be a WonderCat lite? ie Not Catwoman but not Wonder Woman.  The people who all help define her like from Marston to Perez to Azzarello to Lynda Carter to Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are adamant that she is one of the more hopeful characters like Superman. 

Batman fans who read his comics know what they read. Because Bruce does not have Diana featuring in any meaningful way in his mythos and he managed to do everything he does and still be a hero and good man without her. Yes he has tragedy in his life, but that is his story and defines him. Would they make him “lighter” just to fit her mythos? Hell no. So what is this bs about suddenly making her talk nonsense about having darkness like him? I mean you can see the way this is trying to alter the core of the characters to force something that should be nothing more than two colleagues that respect each other and work together.  

If they ever meaningfully added her to his mythos it changes it big time unless you want to pretend Diana can’t change Gotham and is ineffective against street level characters. She doesn’t even fit into his street level world.To do this you have to dilute both her and him big time.

The answer is actually simpler than that. To a batgod fanboy, batgod gets all the bitches. That’s all that Wonder Woman is to them, just another conquest to prove again how manly and better their batgod is than anyone else.
